Summer fun

I can't believe it's been a month since I last posted. The summer has flown by. I had foolishly thought that having a three day work week would mean that I would have more time to slow down and catch up on things. It turns out that it just means that you have even less time for yourself, especially when you have two children to entertain and amuse.
So here's a brief rundown of what we've done so far.
Spent a week at my brother-in-law's cottage. The kids had a wonderful time with their cousins, swimming, exploring, playing in the treehouse, jumping off rocks into the water.

Great weather, except for one afternoon where we had torrential rain and a hail storm which left dozens of dents in our new minivan(it's in the repair shop--thank God for insurance....the bill should be around $4,000!!!!)

Went to Canada's Wonderland (amusement park) with cousins. Had a great time in the waterpark. BoyChild surpassed the height limit of 48" and went on The Italian Job and the Minebuster the which were "big kid" roller coaster rides and loved them. I can't believe he grew over an inch in just one month, which is the last time we had gone to Wonderland....I guess summer sunshine helped him grow.

Had lots of playdates and get togethers with friends.

M. and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary....gulp...did I just write 15?!! I don't want to get all sappy but I couldn't help feeling so lucky that I still love being alone with my husband. We always have so much to talk about and it's just nice to just spend time with him just doing simple things. We had a lovely time with three whole nights without the children...it was wonderful. We went out to great dinners. Went to see Just for Laughs which is a comedy festival and we saw Craig Ferguson (Late Late Show) and an extremely funny Canadian comedian Russell Peters...if you ever get a chance to see him, I highly recommend him, he is hilarious. The comics were really funny and we had a great time. We went to the Queen musical We Will Rock You . It was good, but a bit disappointing, my husband and I both love Queen and we were really excited to see the show but there wasn't much of a plot or storyline and the actors had good voices but their acting and dancing left a lot to be desired. We got to sleep in late and go out for breakfast and it was just so amazing to be able to spend time just walking, talking and window shopping. We didn't have to referee any arguments over whose turn it was on the computer, or who got the bigger piece of chocolate, it was bliss. We also went to see Hairspray, great movie! I highly recommend it. The young actors did a great job and I loved Nikki Blonsky, the new young actress who played the lead role, she did an amazing job, I loved her from the minute she appeared on the screen, she has such a wonderful energy and positive spirit, you can't help but love her.

One of the soccer parents donated some Blue Jays baseball tickets, so we took some of GirlChild's team mates to a game. The girls were really well behaved and had a good time and the Jays won the game.

Our dog, Ruby, broke her toe. Poor little doggie. We think she must have been tearing around the yard at her usual breakneck speed and smashed her toe on one of the new patio stones that had been delivered....ouch!
M. and his family worked hard on transforming our backyard from a big sandpile into a wonderful space with a deck and patio area...next comes the grass, woohoo! We will be hosting our first bbq tomorrow night to christen the deck and patio.
We're off to another cottage in a few days....no internet access again, so I won't be posting again for a while. Actually, I think I'll take a cue from Kim and I think I'll take a hiatus until September. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer, I'll be thinking of the Kimchi Mamas everytime I sip a Cosmo. Cheers!
