M's colleague and his wife gave birth a little while ago to their first child, a son. His birth, well, to be more accurate his conception and life is a miracle. The Mom had several miscarriages and grueling rounds of fertility treatments, so this baby is so wanted, loved and cherished. Mazel tov!
This is BoyChild's pick. It is hilarious, a truly bad, bad kitty! Even though he's read this hundreds of times he still laughs at Kitt's antics.

M's favourite. He wants to raise a daughter who is strong, independent and won't need a Prince to make her dreams come true, she can do that on her own, thank you very much!
As baby shower presents we have recently begun the tradition of giving books as gifts. To make it a little more special M. and I and the children choose our favourite books and we write a little message to the baby inside.
Here's our list:

GirlChild's favourite. This pig truly has attitude and spunk.

What a great tradition! The only one of yours I've read is Olivia, and we love it. I'll have to check the other ones out.
I really like "All Alone" by Kevin Henkes. We also love all the Frances books. Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever is another fave.
The Tale of Desperaux and anything else by Kate Dicamillio.
The Fourteen Bears in Winter.
Princess Pruneela (atwood).....
oh so many more!
I love giving books too. For infants, we like to give "Who Said Moo." Our kids loved the hell out of that book.
They love "Olivia" too. I love Harold, partly because I think Buddy kind of looks like him with their big round heads and ginormous eyes! But that was one of my favorites growing up too.
They are really loving the "Me and the..." books right now, especially the "Me on the Map" book. And a big book of Curious George stories. And any Dr. Seuss. Madeline. Llama Llama Red Pajama. Babies Can't Eat Kimchee! Hooray for Diffendoofer School.
Too many to list!
I like giving books, too, or music. Lord knows Cadence gets too many toys and clothes, so I figure other parents are in the same boat.
Cadence likes to pretend she's Harold, and I've been noticing a lot more drawings on the walls...
Some of my favorites are The Snowy Day and other books by Ezra Jack Keats (I love his illustrations--the colors and textures are amazing!), the Knuffle Bunny and Pigeon series by Mo Willems
I am also eagerly awaiting Charley Harper's ABC's and Birds and Words. These would be great gifts for the design-savvy parents.
I'm also fond of the old Golden Books like I Can Fly by Ruth Krauss who was married to the author of the Harold series (the girl in the book looks kinda hapa to me and the retro patterns splattered throughout the book are just gorgeous) and I am a Bunny (illustrated by Richard Scarry--the prettiest pictures!).
Ok, I could probably go on and on...
Love that idea!
We like almost anything by Kevin Henkes too; and the Skippyjon Jones books by Judy Schachner. Among millions of others.
Congratulations to your friend! I love giving and receiving books. Some of the best gifts we received for our kids have been books that are still cherished. If you liked Harold and the Purple Crayon, you might like
Not A Box by Antoinette Portis
Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
Those are some of our favorites, too - Bad Kitty is HILARIOUS!
I love The Jolly Postman for slightly older munchkins, and Blueberries for Sal.
Thank you so much everyone for the suggestions, I love buying books for my kids.
