We were in the car last night driving BoyChild to his grandparents' house as their flight to Florida was at an ungodly hour and they were all being driven to the airport by M's brother.
GirlChild: who invented books?
BoyChild: Robert Munsch
GirlChild: that makes sense
The kids like to ask each other silly questions and tell goofy jokes, it's one of the best parts of long car rides. The not so fun stuff, bickering and teasing happen too A LOT, that's when we would gladly throw them both out of the car, so it's always nice when they are goofy and having fun.
About 12 years ago I read The Paper Bag Princess, from that moment on I was hooked on Robert Munsch. I buy all his books and they are among my children's favourites, he is the best.

Ooh I have that book on the twins' wish list. Glad to hear another positive review on it.
However... um... what is up with his "Love You Forever" book? This has to be one of the creepiest books I've ever read (IMO)! No? Am I the only one?
Halfmama, I'm really sorry but I have to disagree with you on "Love You Forever", I remember reading it to GirlChild when she was a newborn and sobbing(okay, the hormones probably had a lot to do with the tears) but I still love the book. BoyChild always asks me to read it to him and he always asks "I'll always be your baby right, Mommy" and then I start getting teary eyed and tell him "yes, you'll be my baby forever"
But I can see your point, the whole Mommy/Stalker bit, is that what gets you creeped out? I'm really interested to know...and btw I love hearing other points of view, I really appreciate your comment and opinion.
oh, i like "love you forever." but i prefer munsch's funny stories -- "thomas' snowsuit" comes to mind.
Oh I'm sorry! I hope I didn't offend you. Actually, I thought I was the only one and then I went to amazon and a lot of the reviewers were creeped out too so then I felt a little more brazen to say something. I'm sorry. :(
You know, it might have to do with a relative in G's family giving that to us when the twins were born, and then his mom telling us she loved that book. I just had images of her sneaking into our bedroom at night and trying to pick G up and rock him. So... it probably has a lot to do with that!
Of course you didn't offend me, I love to hear and discuss other people's opinions, even though I'm always right ;-), just kidding! Thank you so much for commenting! I would completely be creeped out if I could actually picture my MIL coming into our room and rocking my husband...too yucky for words! Thank God that is not something she would ever do.
I have heard good things about The Paper Bag Princess. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check it out.
I do love Munsch, adn kids all do, too. some parents have issues about the bratty behaviour in the books, but I think they get that it's silly because it's a bit naughty. hey, Shakespeare did the same thing all the time! Not that I'm really equating him to the Bard, but you know... It's good to have silly fun.
Robert Munsch, of course! That's adorable. (I like Stephanie's Ponytail.)
Hope he has a wonderful trip.
Oh that is sweet. I met him you know. After Bookangel was born we took her up to a huge and wonderful bookstore that no longer exists on upper yonge street. mr mumma was holding her, my perfect 4 month old, and I turned around and saw him talking to a man (who was holding her!),and it turned out to be RM who was there for the book signing of Alligator Baby.
sigh. now I feel all misty.
